The Under Armour combine made its annual trip to South Florida to showcase the undeniable talents that dwell here. Athletes from all around the Southeast traveled here to participate in one of the numerous off-season events known to attract national attentions to uprising athletes.
The South Florida graduating class of 2011 produced a balance of successful players on either side of the ball. Watching this years showcase, however, I'll take the first step to saying the Class of 2012 seems to be leaning towards the defensive side of the 11.
Sophomore Safety Marcell Harris of West Orange High School traveled from Orlando and made a name for himself in the south. Catching the crowds eye with his 6'1 frame, solid foot mechanics, and quick hands, Harris stepped strong onto the field and did not relent. When I spoke with him after the combine, he mentioned his natural attraction to the Gators, where his father played.
Miami native Deon Bush of Miami Columbus received 10 offers in the week previous to the combine. Shortly before, he was invited to play in the 2012 under armour bowl. It was no surprise to see his name on the under armour "star" list. Exploding through his drills and setting a combine record of 10.8 on the long jump before getting hurt and sitting out the end of the event. Bush is one to certainly keep an eye on during his senior season.
On the other side of the ball, recent Chaminade madonna transfer Zakary Zerquera dominated in 1on1 drills. Fighting for the ball all the way to the ground, Zerquera impressed both coaches and crowds as he came up victorious.
